Many novels take place in the world around us, taking us to places we've never been. This session will look at how to map out the locations in a novel using ArcGIS online (UC Berkeley community members can access the program through the GIS Tools page), allowing us to engage with the space of the novel. It also allows visual learners (like me) to have some fun with some of our favorite learning methods.

During the session, the class will introduce participants to the ArcGIS service and the idea of GIS (geospatial information systems). The class will then discuss setting up a dataset of longitude and latitudes in order to populate mapping programs. Finally, we'll talk about adding sketches including path lines and pop-up notes.
